Micah Beausoleil Shines at SkillsUSA National Masonry Competition!
July 3, 2024
Micah Beausoleil, Masonry Class of 2024, attended the SkillsUSA National Competitions held from June 25-28 in Atlanta, GA. Micah was one of 49 high school students from across the country competing in his trade. Student competitors are required to attend a four-hour contest briefing where they are given a blueprint of the project along with a mini 3D-printed replica. Members of the National Masonry Committee review all assessment protocols with the students during orientation, making sure everyone understands the project requirements. On competition day, students are given six hours to complete the project, with a half-hour lunch break.
Competition day is both exciting and nerve-wracking for all of them, as contact with anyone outside the judges is not allowed. Students must troubleshoot and make adjustments as they go, relying on what they have previously completed in their shop. Neither the students nor their trade teachers are given any idea of what the project is until the orientation meeting at SkillsUSA Nationals.
Having finished in 7th place, Micah was both thrilled and disappointed in his performance, a sentiment a true champion would feel, always striving to do better.
He has made all of Ellis Tech and the CTECS District proud!
